Located approximately 13 kilometers southeast of Siem Reap town and 2 kilometers north of Tonle Sap Lake, the Pearaing is officially recognized as an eco-tourism site, a designation it has held since 2015. Through the dedication of local villagers, authorities, and Buddhist monks, the area has been carefully preserved, becoming a peaceful sanctuary for hundreds of fish species, diverse wetland and water birds, and other wildlife.
Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts can observe species such as Asian Open-billed, Painted and Milky Storks, Spot-billed Pelicans, Little Cormorants, Black-winged Stilts, Oriental Darters, Spot-billed Ducks, Comb Ducks, Grey and Purple Herons, Javan Pond Herons, Terns, Egrets, Bronze-winged Jacanas, Purple Swamphens, Pacific Golden Plovers, and over one hundred additional species. In addition, Indochinese Silvered Langurs and otters are frequently sighted in the area, adding to the richness of the local wildlife.
